I recently replaced a bad alternator 5. November We have a '99 GMC Savana with about 13, miles on it - so far no major problems - the van runs and handles great! We took it for a mile trip over the summer and it was a pleasure in all sorts of weather, and on all kinds of roads. Sorry to hear about your alternator - we have the same engine, so I hope we don't have the same problem - at least not after our warranty runs out!

We did purchase an extended warranty, which was really out-of-character for us we're generally not fans of extended warranties, and we didn't get one for our Subarubut we had no idea how reliable the van was going to be, and decided that an extended warranty gave us a bit more piece of mind.

Midas Gold, I noticed your post that you are a relatively new owner of a passenger Savana. Are the benches removable, and if so how? Do they pop with the push of a lever like most minivans or do you have to undo those allen-wrench-looking bolts?? A friend with a Ford Club Wagon says his just pop out. But I like the Savana better, but the ability to quickly create more space with 6 kids will affect my purchasing decision.

Thanks if you have a chance to respond. Donn Ghaile. Yes, the benches are removable. Lift the flap, and there's a gap in the padding at that location. There are strong metal L-shaped locking pins with rubberized grips. We just sort of wiggle the locking pin while pulling it out and it usually comes right out.

Then comes the fun part - getting the benches out of the van - my husband can do it in just a couple of minutes. They make a nice sitting area in our garage - add a coffee table and we'd be all set! We have 6 kids, too! MG, Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The answer to the Ford v. Purely looks. My better half thinks -- and I can't disagree -- that the Ford, despite the windows on the sides, still looks like work van no matter what. We like the spiffy look of the GM.We know, advertisements are annoying and slow down the internet.

We'll send you one email per day with the latest GM updates. I think he means that GM needs something to properly handle the mid-size and compact van segment.

What makes these older style vans so great is their ability to tow heavy loads equivalent to their Silverado equivalents which no other modern van can do. This fits it really well in the American utility market and would leave a really big hole if it left. There are big jumps…. That there will probably be some sort of electric commercial vehicle is a given, that it will replace all the full size vans is a REALLY broad assumption…….

I live in Texas and I cant speak for everyone here in my state but for the most part we Texans like our big tough trucks and SUVs. That being said it should be of no surprise that in turn most of us feel the same way about our Vans. We generally use vans for work vehicles and need something well tough because were either gonna have them loaded down with weight inside or pulling some kind of heavy trailer or both.

The market is not ready fo all Electric. Of course that would like GM, put the cart before the horse. It had Miles on it when I gave it away to a guy that just started a electrician company. He drove it for another miles. It has over k miles on it and has never treated me wrong. We here in New England and any state that gets snow.

Itll save us hard working companies some money on fuel and the environment. If you want fuel savings, get one of these vans with the new 2.

Of course the problem is still snow in the winter… these vans are useless in it. Anywhere from — lbs for half my route. The 2. Good to hear….RWD ". Select Car. Compare to Rear-Wheel Drive. Chevy Express, GMC Savana Replacement Begins To Take Shape

Storage Solutions. Cup Holder Solutions. Suction Cup Solutions. Chevrolet Caprice. Chevrolet Colorado. Chevrolet Equinox. Chevrolet Impala.A large, traditional, rear-wheel-drive passenger or cargo van, the GMC Savana is a tried and true commercial vehicle.

Unlike many of its competitors the full-size Savana still uses a ladder-type frame, a design similar to GMC's full-size pickup trucks, the Sierra and the Sierra HD.

This body-on-frame construction has proven durable and dependable over the years and allows the Savana to tow up to 10, pounds and boast a maximum payload capacity of pounds. Its ride and handling, however, aren't quite as carlike as some of its rivals. The Savana is available as a passenger vehicle with seating for as many as 15 or as a cavernous cargo van.

Several engines, including a couple of V-8s, are offered as well two wheelbases and a few trim levels. Not much has changed for the GMC Savana. The only upgrade this year is a new eight-speed automatic transmission for models equipped with the Duramax 2. It replaces the van's dated six-speed automatic and should improve acceleration and fuel economy. Several engines are offered, but we also recommend the optional 6.

With horsepower and lb-ft of torque, it's considerably more powerful than the standard hp 4. GMC offers the Savana with a wide range of powertrains. Both the passenger and the cargo versions of the van come standard with a hp 4. GMC also offers a version of the V-8 that runs on gasoline as well as compressed natural gas and propane.

The most expensive and most complex engine available is a 2. It's only a four-cylinder, but it pumps out an impressive lb-ft of torque, which is almost as much as the V Still, vans with the V-8 can pull and haul more weight.

While the V-6 and the diesel engines get a more modern eight-speed automatic transmission, the V-8s are still paired with an antiquated but durable six-speed automatic. A or standard-wheelbase version of the GMC Savana passenger van offers the highest tow rating when equipped with the 6. This setup has a maximum tow rating of pounds and a maximum payload capacity of pounds.

However, with the same V-8 the Savana cargo van can tow 10, pounds, which is pounds more than the V-6 model. Its maximum payload is pounds. Because the GMC Savana is a commercial vehicle, it is not issued fuel-economy ratings or estimates by the Environmental Protection Agency. This is also the case with GMC's heavy-duty and pickup trucks. Inside, the GMC Savana is all about function.

Its interior offers large, comfortable seats and a basic dashboard design with durable black plastics and ergonomic control placement. The passenger van comes with seating for 12 standard, but extended-wheelbase models can transport The upper LT trim level adds a few luxuries such as keyless entry.

Cargo versions of the Savana offer as much as Cargo vans come raw, with bare cargo areas for easy customization to fit your needs. GMC does offer some shelving and other storage solutions, as well as a sliding side door or two doors that swing out. Unlike modern minivans, all GMC Savanas only have a cargo or loading door on the passenger side.

If you're expecting the same level of infotainment technology and connectivity as GMC offers in its pickups, you're going to be disappointed. The GMC Savana cargo van doesn't even have a touchscreen in its dashboard, and one isn't available. A touchscreen with navigation is offered for the passenger van.

A 4G Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth are offered on both models, as is the myGMC mobile app, which allows you to lock and unlock your vehicle from your smart phone. The app also allows you to schedule and manage dealer maintenance visits. GMC offers a solid list of driver aids and dynamic safety systems on the Savana; however, two of them are included only in the more expensive LT trim level: forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning.
